Matthew Klassen

Matthew joined Sherrard Kuzz LLP as a first-year summer student in 2024 and returns for his second summer in 2025. He is a Juris Doctor candidate at Queen’s University where he is a member of the Queen’s Labour and Employment Law Club, a student volunteer with Pro Bono Students Canada, and competed in a labour and employment moot.  Matt wasted no time making his mark in law school, having been awarded the Queen’s Spark Award, presented annually to a first-year law student who, in the opinion of the selection committee, best-demonstrated commitment to the law school in areas such as (a) student and faculty government; (b) social activities; (c) extracurricular clubs, societies and organizations; and (d) athletic competition.

Matthew graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Law, where he was a Dean’s List Scholar, and captain of each of the Men’s Lacrosse Team and Carleton Moot Team.

Prior to law school Matthew worked in labour and employee relations in the federal and provincial public sectors, where he worked closely with internal and external stakeholders on various labour and employment-related matters.

In his spare time, Matthew enjoys playing lacrosse and volleyball, being outdoors, and spending time with his dog.
